SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) today announced its DivX® Plus Streaming technology will be integrated into the "UniPhier®" series of digital television and Blu-ray Disc integrated circuit (IC) solutions from Panasonic Corporation's Semiconductor Business Group. Designed to quickly enable advanced entertainment experiences across the connected device ecosystem, DivX Plus Streaming was selected by Panasonic SoC for its ability to deliver more high-quality video content and advanced multimedia features as part of the over-the-top entertainment experience.

DivX Plus Streaming brings a robust, cutting-edge feature set to streaming media that is typically characteristic of the Blu-ray Disc consumer experience. By dynamically adjusting video streams and delivering maximum visual quality based on available bandwidth, DivX Plus Streaming eliminates jumpiness, pauses, and buffering during video playback. The solution supports 1080p high definition, subtitles, multiple language tracks, and trick-play features such as smooth fast forward and rewind, quick-start playback, and resume playback across devices. DivX Plus Streaming also works in conjunction with Rovi's DivX Plus HD certification to enable offline playback of digital video files with similar advanced features.

"The agreement with Panasonic SoC is evidence of the momentum of DivX Plus Streaming and will help quickly fuel expansion of the ecosystem of digital entertainment products that support this next-generation technology," said Matt Milne, EVP, worldwide sales and marketing, Rovi Corporation. "DivX Plus Streaming offers an end-to-end solution for retailers, and CE and IC manufacturers that is lightweight and easy to integrate yet provides the benefits of a flexible DRM framework for the secure encoding, delivery and consumption of streamed video content."

To develop DivX Plus Streaming, Rovi built upon core DivX® technologies recognized by millions of consumers around the world for delivering great video performance, visual quality, and multi-screen interoperability. The solution also utilizes trusted digital rights management technology currently used by a number of online retailers offering movies in the DivX format including WB Shop and Media Markt. To accelerate time to market and device integration, Rovi has built out the existing certification program used for DivX technology device validation and compatibility – a program that has resulted in shipment by top-tier manufacturers of over 600 million DivX-compatible consumer electronics devices into the market.
