BERLIN, Sept. 7, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IFA 2013 -- Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq:ROVI), driving digital entertainment innovation, today announced that it is collaborating with TCL, the number one LCD TV manufacturer in China and third largest in the world,* to integrate DivX Plus® HD and DivX Plus Streaming into its new range of TVs. The combination can enhance the consumer digital entertainment experience by enabling the high quality playback of protected premium content from any one of the many services around the globe that supports Rovi's advanced adaptive streaming format.

"DivX Plus Streaming is an ideal complement to the cutting-edge feature set of our TVs," said Stan Hu, Director of Overseas Product Planning Department in TCL. "Integrating support for DivX Plus Streaming is one of the ways we are continuing to anticipate and adapt to evolving consumer entertainment needs and serve the market with 'truly smart' TVs that deliver premium entertainment experiences."

DivX Plus Streaming brings a cutting-edge feature set to streaming media that is typically characteristic of the Blu-ray Disc consumer experience including enabling multi-language subtitles and audio tracks, trick-play track for smooth fast forward and rewind, chapter points for quick scene navigation, and resume playback across devices. In addition, to help eliminate buffering or the "spinning wheel", DivX Plus Streaming includes Dynamic Resolution Scaling. Providing smooth and seamless transitions between different resolutions, Dynamic Resolution Scaling helps consumers enjoy quick start times and continuous play even in low or fluctuating bandwidth environments.

"Rovi is extremely pleased to be working with innovative manufacturers such as TCL, and support their objective of offering consumers feature-rich, high-quality playback of a range of entertainment content," said Bob Shallow, senior vice president, Product Sales & Marketing at Rovi. "As a leading manufacturer of LCD TVs, we believe TCL's selection of DivX® further validates our video technology and reinforces our shared dedication to deliver an advanced viewing experience."

DivX Plus Streaming has gained the support of IC vendors, consumer electronics device manufacturers and studios. The advanced adaptive streaming format is also rapidly gaining the support of entertainment service providers on a worldwide basis. DivX Plus Streaming has been adopted by Dixons, Sainsbury's and Media Markt in Europe, and selected by Mei-ah, a film production company in China that recently launched an on-demand entertainment offering for mobile users in collaboration with China Mobile (Hong Kong). Rovi anticipates announcing additional DivX Plus Streaming agreements with entertainment service providers before the end of the year.

Visitors to IFA in Berlin, September 6-11, can view live demonstrations of DivX Video Service with DivX Plus Streaming along with Rovi's complete range of solutions driving the advanced discovery, delivery, and monetization of digital entertainment at Rovi's Hall 25, Stand 151. Also on display at the show is Rovi's end-to-end solution for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC/H.265).
