Technology to be showcased at Texas Instruments Booth at
TU-Automotive in Detroit
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
FotoNation Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tessera Technologies
Inc. (NASDAQ:TSRA) and the leading provider of computational imaging
solutions for mobile phones and digital still cameras, is entering the
global automotive market with its new driver monitoring system.
FotoNation's FacePowerTM technology identifies the driver,
detects driver drowsiness and distraction, and allows manufacturers to
provide their customers an enhanced and safer driving experience. Driver
monitoring is one of the most effective in-vehicle road safety measures,
and smarter driver monitoring systems with FotoNation technology can
help avert accidents caused by driver inattention.
"Face detection, head position, eye tracking and eye closure detection
are the most effective physical markers to determine a driver's
condition," said Sumat Mehra, SVP of Marketing and Business Development
at FotoNation. "Our technology can successfully detect various driver
states, even with the presence of image occlusions, such as face masks,
head scarves, hats or glasses, and in all lighting conditions. This
allows us to deliver the most advanced driver monitoring system on the
market. Based on discussions with our partners, we believe some car
models will include driver monitoring technologies in 2017 or 2018."
FotoNation's new driver monitoring system runs on the Texas Instruments
TDA3x System-on-Chip processor, and will be showcased at the Texas
Instruments Booth MRV1 at TU-Automotive (formerly Telematics Detroit) on
June 4-5, 2015.
"Working with driver monitoring software IP suppliers such as FotoNation
enables a complete solution for our automotive customers," said Jason
Jacob, processor general manager, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems at
Texas Instruments. "Our TDA3x System-on-Chip is a perfect platform for
driver monitoring applications with its efficient Digital Signal
Processor (DSP) and Embedded Vision Engine (EVE) processing cores, as
well as the integration of an Image Signal Processor and a
Microcontroller Unit, all of which reduces cost, size and power
footprint allowing scalability from entry-level to premium vehicles."
